چکیده

In recent years, there has been a rapid increase in the availability of cross-sectional imaging techniques in veterinary medicine. CT is now readily accessible in many veterinary universities and referral institutions and is gaining acceptance for the investigation of many diseases. The last 10 years have seen a significant increase in CT related clinical research and various comparative studies have demonstrated the advantages of this modality compared to the previous cornerstones of veterinary imaging – radiography and ultrasonography. Currently CT is used mainly at secondary referral centres after radiography and ultrasonography has been performed at veterinary first opinion level. Eventually CT may become a standard first-line choice in imaging just as it is in human medicine. The general public has grown increasingly aware of the availability of cross-sectional diagnostic imaging techniques for companion animals and may trigger raised demands for cross-sectional imaging in veterinary medicine. The purposes of this article are threefold: To give an overview of the current availability of CT for veterinarians; to present the challenges facing the veterinary profession in delivering CT to their patients; and to review some current clinical applications of veterinary CT.

Design of Small Animal Computed Tomography Imaging for in vitro and in vivo Studies

Introduction: Mini Computed Tomography (mini-CT) was suggested in biomedical research to investigate tissues and small animals. We present designed and built a mini x-ray computed tomography (mini-CT) for small animals as well as industrial component imaging. Materials and Methods: The system used in this study includes a X-ray tube 20kV to 160kV and a flat pa...

FDG-PET/CT and CT findings of a benign solitary fibrous tumor of the kidney: correlation with pathology

Herein, we report the F-18 fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) positron emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography (CT) findings of a benign solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) of the kidney. The patient was a 63-year-old woman with a mass in the right kidney (10×9.7 cm), incidentally found on CT images. The CT scan showed a lobulated tumor arising from the hilum of the right kidney. The tumor consisted o...

Computed Tomographic Anatomy of the Abdominal Cavity in the Jebeer (Gazella Bennettii)

Introduction: Computed tomography (CT) is an imaging technique with gives us an opportunity to review cross sections of the body in live animals. In veterinary medicine although CT is mostly used for diagnostic purposes in small animals, but in recent years CT also has been used as a non invasive modality in non clinical studies. Jebeer Gazelle (Gazella bennettii) is one of the species of the g...

A Prospective Study Comparing Functional Imaging (18F-FDG PET) Versus Anatomical Imaging (Contrast Enhanced CT) in Dosimetric Planning for Non-small Cell Lung Cancer.

Objective(s): 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (18F-FDG PET-CT) is a well-used and established technique for lung cancer staging. Radiation therapy requires accurate target volume delineation, which is difficult in most cases due to coexisting atelectasis. The present study was performed to compare the 18F-FDG PET-CT with contrast enhanced computed tomogr...

Translation of Methdology used in Human Myocardial Imaging to a Sheep Model of Acute Myocardial Infarction

Background: Pre-clinical investigation of stem cells for repairing damaged myocardium predominantly used rodents, however large animals have cardiac circulation closely resembling the human heart. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether SPECT/CT myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) could be used for assessing sheep myocardium following an acute myocardial infarction (MI) and response to int...
